MOSCOW – The majority of people in France, Germany and Italy believe that the efforts undertaken by the United States to defeat terrorism following the deadly attacks on September 11, 2001 have not made the world safer.

The poll conducted by French opinion Ifop for Sputnik revealed today that at least 74 percent of German respondents, 65 percent of the French and 63 percent of Italians do not believe that US counterterrorism efforts following 9/11 contributed to global security.

According to the survey, only 20 percent of Germans, 24 percent of French people and 30 percent of Italians said that US counterterrorism activities contributed to global peace.

At the same time, 54 percent of US respondents said Washington’s counterterrorism efforts were successful, while 39 percent disagreed.
