JOHANNESBURG – After a lengthy break from the music industry, Winnie Khumalo released a brand new single “Lazaru”, sending social media into a frenzy.

The Sowetan songbird and actress has been receiving tons of praises on Twitter, from fans who can’t seem to get enough of the song. The single has been long anticipated from Khumalo and the single will surely heat up any festive season party.

Asking Winnie about the great response she has been getting on social media, she said: “I’m humbled by all the love I’m getting from the fans, people have never received me so well before, even with “Live my life, it was not like this, its just so amazing and I’m grateful.”

The “Live My Life” hitmaker went further to unpack a few setbacks she encountered in releasing the song: “The new single has been rejected by various record labels, they all wanted me to do what I have been doing before, that’s when I decided to take the risk of releasing it independently, and I’m glad that I made it,” she said.

She also spoke about her long break she took from the music industry.

“At some point, I made a decision of taking a break from the music because I felt that the market is the same, I needed to change my sound, come up with my unique African sound and that is the reason why I have Bongo beats from Muungu Africa on the production,” she said

The song also features Busiswa from Kalawa Records and Lionel Siwela.
