Four male lions have reportedly escaped from the Kruger National Park and have been spotted at a nearby village, leading authorities warning local residents to exercise extra caution.

South African National Parks (SANParks) said in a statement on Monday that it had received information that the four male lions escaped from the park during the night on July 9 and were spotted at Matsulu, a village outside the park.

β€œKNP Rangers and their counterparts at Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) are in the area searching for the lions and we will give details as soon as they have appraised us”, said KNP spokesperson, William Mabasa.

Mabasa said SANParks would like to β€œreiterate that residents should be extra vigilant and report any sightings of these dangerous predators to the authorities on 080010111”.
