Those who swear by ”living green” know the vast range of benefits provided by essential oils. From medical ailments to mental wellness and alternative beauty treatments, there’s an oil for almost every need.

Chances are, your favourite miracle product that’s been developed by beauty experts, contains at least one essential oil that functions as the magic ingredient. So instead of splashing out on chemically enhanced, store-bought products, why not swap it out for essential oils that are not only gentle and effective on the skin and hair, but can also enhance overall health and wellness.

Here are some of the top benefits of popular essential oils: 

LAVENDER OIL

Most commonly used for its relaxing effects on the body,the aroma of lavender oil relaxing and helps release stress.  A drop or two when rubbed in the temples helps in better sleep. Used with coconut oil, lavender oil helps getting rid of lice and their eggs as well. Adding a drop or two in your regular moisturiser helps healing sunburn.

TEA TREE OIL

SANDALWOOD OIL 

Sandalwood functions as an antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and anti-spasmodic remedy as well as a natural disinfectant. It is most effective during the change of season when the chances of contracting colds and flues are at an all-time high.

Fill a large bowl with steaming water, add one to two drops of sandal wood essential oil and let it do it’s work as a DIY steam facial. Not only is it refreshing, but open up your pours and leae your face looking silky smooth as help reduce blemishes.

NEROLI OIL

The interesting thing about this bitter orange oil is it contains beneficial properties to help you achieve a sound sleep and reduced stress levels. It is a natural remedy for anxiety, depression, hysteria, panic, shock and stress. Wet a cotton ball, add a drop of neroli oil and lightly dab it on your skin to help treat acne. You can also mix it with skin cream to help regenerate your skin.

NOTE: Most essential oils aren’t meant to be applied directly to your skin or hair. It is best to mix them with a carrier oil such as coconut, olive, or jojoba to avoid irritation. This will also boost the hydrating properties of your beautifying recipe.
