Falling asleep does not come easy for some people which is why when a doctor on TikTok revealed a simple hack that will help people go to sleep quicker, she went viral.

Dr Jess Andrade, who goes by DoctorJessss on the video-sharing platform, said that she often wears socks to bed at night and has found it has hugely benefited her sleep routine.

In the video, Andrade talks about people who wear socks to bed and explains why that is actually a good thing.

“So let’s talk about people that wear socks to bed. So wearing socks makes the feet warm and this opens up the blood vessels that cools the body down,” she said.

She continued, “The body being cool tells the brain that it’s time for bed so actually people that wear socks tend to fall asleep faster.”

According to the Independent, Dr Andrade went on to explain that she did not invent the sleep hack but said that it comes from research published in the journal Physical Behaviour in 2006 that examined the impact foot temperature can have on sleep quality.

“In adults, sleep-onset was accelerated by warm and neutral bed socks after lights-off and correlated to the increase in foot temperature,” the study concluded.

However, other TikTok users were not quite convinced that the trick would work for them.

One user commented, “I can’t breathe if I wear socks to bed.”

Another wrote, “Socks or not I stare at me [my] ceiling for an hour and a half.”

However, others found it strange that it wasn’t seen as normal to go to sleep wearing socks, insisting that this is something they have always done.

“Wait, people struggle wearing socks? I wear socks 24/7,” wrote one person.
