Adewale Adejumo has always had big dreams.

As a boy, he believed that he would be the director of a science institute one day. So, he got a BSc in Genetics and an MSc in Plant Pathology. But when he ran short of money for his studies, he began selling Chinese electronic tablets from the boot of his car.

The business proved so lucrative that Adejumo began studying a postgraduate diploma in Marketing, Finance, Banking and Investment. Then, in 2013, Adjemo took a leap of faith and founded zasttra.com – one of South Africa’s fastest growing online retail stores.

It is also one of only 40 start-ups recently selected worldwide for Google’s Start-Up Grind. In the last four years, the website has grown to 150 000 visitors a month and Adejumo, 32, has been nominated by PriceCheck as one of the top 10 black technology and eCommerce entrepreneurs in South Africa.

One of the biggest challenges he faces is finding skilled people in the online retail space, which is why he is a firm believer in hiring smart, driven people, and training them up.

Focused and hardworking, Adejumo has ensured that even though his dream has changed, he is still directing it, in a big way.
