DURBAN – Former footballer and Maritzburg United coach, Steve Komphela has been struggling to set the bar with Kaizer Chiefs.

Komphela has a three-year contract with the team and is expected to deliver the best for this big team. Although he has not won any trophy with Kaizer Chiefs or with any other team in his career, answers are now slowly coming together for him, the team and the supporters.

A 2-0 win against Free State Stars on Wednesday brought hope for him and the fans. Chiefs are now on top of the league with three straight wins. The first win came when they beat Maritzburg United by 2-0, followed by a 1-0 win against Highlands Park.

“We are marching on” he said with confidence after their last match.

Komphela says that he knows there is room for improvement, but he was delighted with the results.

Amakhosi had a stumbling start to the season, losing their opening match to Bidvest Wits and were also shockingly knocked out of the MTN8 by the new kids on the block, Cape Town City.

Chiefs looked uninspired and undetermined to dominate their opponents; however Komphela feels it is now important that his side bounce back.

“You don’t want to come with excuses because all the teams went through the same period. We must just guard that the break won’t affect us negatively” says Komphela
