The Soweto Wine and Lifestyle Festival runs until March 5 at its new venue, the Soweto Theatre.

The festival was designed to bring the Western Cape’s most acclaimed wines into Gauteng and, more specifically, into Joburg’s biggest township, to expose the Soweto population to the country’s prestigious wine-drinking culture.

The festival has expanded over the past 12 years to incorporate various lifestyle elements, including food and travel, although, of course, the emphasis is primarily on the wines.

In between sampling varietals, visit the numerous travel exhibitors or choose cuisine from a variety of Joburg’s top-notch restaurants, bistros and food vendors.

The festival is open from 6pm to 10pm today, and from noon to 6pm on Sunday, March 5.

Tonight, Nonku Phiri whose music spans several genres including electronica, hip hop and kwaito, will be performing. Tickets are available online and at the door. For more information, visit:
