What is Gulaab jamun?

Gulab jamun, or gulaab jamun, is a milk-solids-based sweet mithai.


– 2 to 3/4 Cups of cake flour
– 3 level tsps of baking powder
– 1 tin of condensed milk
– 1 Tbsp of Butter ghee
– 1 tsp of elachi/ cardamom
– 1 tsp of nutmeg

For the Syrup:

– 3 cups of sugar
– 1,5 cups of water

Syrup Method:

Mix 3 cups of sugar into 1,5 cups of water. Allow mixture to boil in order to make the syrup.

The Syrup is ready when its substance is able to smoothly “spin a thread” around the fork.

Leave syrup on low heat on the stove.

Empty the condensed milk into a dish,

Add the elatchi, nutmeg and 1tbspn of ghee.

Whip the mixture and mix well

Add the baking powder and flour

Mix and make it into a dough

Roll into small balls and fry on very low heat until it is light brown

Dip it into the syrup

Leave to dry on a tray
