Mixologists, Clyde Ackerman and Rael Lasarow teamed up and opened the Thirst Bar mobile cocktail bar company in 2015.

The idea sparked whilst travelling through Europe. There the two discovered a love for bartending and mixology.

“The key to making a great cocktail, is to be sure you are using good quality ingredients. From the base spirit, to fresh fruit or herbs,” said Clyde Ackerman.

Today the mobile cocktail bar company is recognised around the globe with offices in Joburg, Cape Town and Durban.

Chatting to us, Clyde revealed some tips on budget friendly mixes that you could easily put together for house guests, over the summer.

Did you know?

The secret of making a cocktail is to find the right balance between sweet and sour. As well as using the correct spirit measurements.

We teach you how to make your easy home made cocktail within 5 minutes to quench your Thirsty Thursday:

Sparkling Dhu Cocktail Recipe

Ingredients:

30ml Glenfiddich 12

20ml agave

20ml pinot grigio

20ml Fino sherry

15ml lemon juice

Top glass with soda water

Directions:

Shake and strain once you’ve mixed all the ingredients.

Add a dehydrated apple slice as garnish

Pimp up your glass 😉 and slide a slice of your favourite fruit on the glass rim to give your cocktail that ‘posh’ effect.

We also have a back up plan for Jane the Virgin cousins who like their cocktails without a touch of alcohol.

Tip: Next time when you are going out on a date just remember that, there are many different cocktail categories, to suit different palates. These include concentrated spirit cocktails, like a Vodka or Gin Martini, Negronis and Manhattans.

These cocktails are generally slow sipping cocktails, for a more mature palate.

Then you have your more refreshing cocktails like Mojitos, Margaritas, Daiquiris and so on.
